A banjo picker met an untimely end and found himself at the pearly gates.
St. Peter told him that everyone in Heaven was looking forward to his
arrival, and they had a house waiting for him. As they walked down the
streets of gold to his house, St. Peter pointed out the homes of famous
pickers such as A.P. Carter and Mother Maybell, and Lester Flatt. The
picker looked up on the hill and saw someone who looked like Bill Monroe,
with a cowboy hat and a mandolin. He asked St. Peter if that in fact was
Mr. Monroe. St. Peter told him, "No, Mr. Monroe lives at the end of the
block. That's God. He thinks he's Bill Monroe."
