In the early 1970s, Jerry played the banjo with a group called "Old and In The Way". John Kahn played the bass and Vassar Clements played the fiddle. Jerry was missing part of his middle finger on his right hand so he played the banjo using his thumb, index and "ring" finger! He played both "Scruggs" style and claw hammer.
